For at least a decade (and much to my delight), holiday decor colors have branched far beyond traditional red and green. Have you noticed, every year in retail, there is 1 outstanding scheme?
For 2012, it seems to go something like this-
We see lots of natural wood/bark accents, crafty (in a modern sense) ornaments and garland, true evergreen color, neutrals like taupe and camel, and metallic shimmer. Often against a white backdrop (White is huge… Remember my prediction?). The style is minimal, hand-made, lighthearted, imperfect, and of course VINTAGE inspired. Our love for vintage seems to be growing even stronger. Here is a taste-
And for our house? Well… we had to nix the tree, due to a certain 1 year old who thinks ornaments are apples ;) But we did add touches here and there-
(My favorite paper stars, purchased from Pottery Barn about 5 years ago. Every time I open them they make me happy.)
I guess it’s safe to say, I am a fan of this year’s palette trend, though I do appreciate a wide variety of interpretations. I love to see what others come up with. Last year, one of my client’s filled her mantel with mini tree ornaments and statues that she and her daughter had collected over the years. Tons of them… It was really cute!
More holiday to come, stay tuned…
