Well, it happened :) 7. Jump out of my shell for a speaking event.
A local high school teacher with a “thirsty for knowledge” interior design class (fun, I almost want to go back?) reached out to ask if I would be interested in speaking about real life interior design & the starting your own business experience.
I gladly accepted the invite, as I’ve always been interested in teaching and love the idea of sharing with fresh minds.
So I put together an outline and decided to focus on the client experience vs. presenting an instructional how-to. Too many of those in high-school right? lol So we kept it light.
In organizing my thoughts, I noticed I kept repeating the same line over and over. PASSION IS CONTAGIOUS. I guess this has been a powerful lesson learned. You know, sometimes it’s hard, after a long morning of shuffling kids and fighting traffic- to turn up that energy level and fully immerse. But when you do? You feel the magic happen.
Can’t you sense sometimes, the love someone has for their work? This is a quality I have always (to put it mildly) admired. I hope to continue (to attempt) to bring this to clients and students. An honest passion for design and the notion that beautiful spaces uplift people. The best inspiration of all… happy clients.
So we chatted. Then we discussed the trends emerging in 2013. With Gatsby opening this weekend, we will see the 1920’s with a modern twist, impact fashion and interiors significantly (reporting back soon, stay tuned).
And to conclude on a high (school) note, I passed out colorful bags full of trend color chips, a card which lists my favorite design websites/blogs, and you know, a sweet treat or 2. I wish the students a world of opportunity, and hope they can file away even 1 helpful bit from this morning’s conversation.
Have a great week readers, be back soon (with lots of posts swimming in my head).
