When an old friend I’ve known since the ripe age of 5 :) asked for help in refreshing her living room, there was only 1 answer- yes!
BEFORE. 3 walls and the ceiling were painted light tan, 1 wall was painted an orange accent color. Crown molding is natural oak. The rug was purchased from Crate&Barrel years ago.
THE CONVERSATION: Bethany does A LOT of entertaining. You know when people just have the gift? She has it! So we are on a mission to accomplish a new, current, “fresh”, updated, welcoming, comfortable, reasonable space on a budget. Upon arrival, you walk right into the living room, so this is the heart of the home.
The adjoining kitchen is painted a spunky, bright green, with super cute custom curtains that her other design friend helped with last year. My first inclination is to unify both rooms with better color and design flow.
This top segment of curtain fabric is a great source of inspiration. After discussing all sorts of paint tangents, we settled on a blue/green. I have NEVER seen paint shades amplify as dramatically on the wall as in this case. We couldn’t believe it! Test, test, test. Finally there was a perfect shade- Sherwin Williams techno gray. On the fan deck this color is surprisingly gray, but on Bethany’s walls it’s a lovely, gentle blue/green that flows so well with the green next door. Love it.
We decided to work with the existing throw pillows on the couch (cute). With their touches of teal, green, and tan, a new color scheme is solidifying. We added a few new ones (teal). Also on the list- paint the living room ceiling, crown molding, and hallway between the living room and kitchen white.
Can I tell you what painting the molding white did for this room? Major improvement! We added a new rug from Target. It brought amazing life to the space. Tables and lamps also from Target. Take a peek-
AFTER. Do you see how happily the room colors work together now? Ahhh, we love good flow. It just feels…”fresh”. We are working on the final accent pieces.
Adding a few new things, moving others around. It’s amazing what a little repositioning can do. Edit and hang things lower than before.
What do you think of our new look? Need help refreshing? Call me. Cheers readers!
