Yes you read that correctly :)
Moons ago, I worked as a designer at a financial institution. Although the job wasn’t passionately creative, the rest of the experience was amazing. Push you out of your comfort zone high standards. Stay for the free lunch (served by a chef). I mean when does that happen?
I met a lot of really wonderful people at this job.
So when an old colleague asked if I could help her mix an exact shade of violet frosting for a marketing project, I was simply all-in.
What’s funny about this scenario is the goal color happened to match Pantone’s color of the year, Radiant Orchid, almost exactly.
I begin to imagine pigments pouring into the pot… lol
But they weren’t liquid pigments, they were chips.
An entire color wheel of chips to be exact.
One goal was to try to avoid using purple & pink as they tend to fade.
We tested a range of mixtures like red, yellow, light blue, and white. But as suspected, the combinations went muddy.
We were destined to pink and purple, next experimenting with the addition of dark blue. Whalaa, dark blue added just the depth and vibrancy needed.
We played, laughed and caught up on life’s adventures in-between… A fun afternoon.
Cheers readers! Have an out of the box color matter? Call me!
